What it is
HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) is a glycoprotein hormone that acts as a gonadotropin. It belongs to the class of pituitary/placental gonadotropin hormones and is used in endocrinology research. It is supplied as lyophilized material for research use only.
Mechanism (technical)
HCG has been studied for its action on the luteinizing hormone/chorionic gonadotropin receptor, stimulating gonadal steroidogenesis within the hypothalamic-pituitary-testicular axis. In the indexed clinical research it has been investigated for its effects on testosterone and spermatogenesis. It has also been used as a provocative agent to stimulate the HPT axis.
