What it is
Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide derived from a fragment of adrenocorticotropic hormone with an added stabilizing sequence. It is classed as a melanocortin-related neuropeptide. It is supplied as lyophilized material for research use only.
Mechanism (technical)
Semax has been studied for its association with neuroprotective and neurotrophic signaling in models of cerebral ischemia, with proteomic analyses characterizing changes in brain protein expression. In-vitro work has examined its interaction with copper-induced amyloid-beta aggregation. Effects on hippocampal gene expression under stress have also been investigated.
